Artist Statement
“Painting is my passion. And beauty is paramount to the intent of every painting that I create.”
I feel fortunate to have had a childhood that thrived on creative expression. Because of that experience, art has become the essence of my identity. I thrive in a creative environment, and I am grateful for this gift, which I express through the joy I feel when painting.
I love the challenge that an empty canvas presents and all the possibilities that it offers. My paintings are multi-layered, and they evolve slowly, layer by layer. Although I paint with a direction and outcome in mind, there are these happy accidents that appear, and I work intuitively to follow those marks and indications. At this point, my artistic interpretation cannot be predicted, as I follow a mood or feeling and then work spontaneously to give each painting a life of its own.
Incorporating an array of techniques into every layer releases a unique feeling in each painting. Selecting specific materials and brushes and then blending colors spontaneously while painting results in the creation of new forms and unique palettes.
I enjoy working quietly in my studio, where the only accompaniment is the sound of my brushwork. The sanctuary of this quietude envelopes me and is reflected in my artwork, which evokes a sense of calmness and serenity. Above any other intent, I embrace beauty in my art. I strive to create painted surfaces that convey a sense of harmony and to create compositions that are balanced with hues and textures that delight the eye when viewed closely and offer drama when viewed from a distance.
Through my art journey, I am privileged to follow my deepest passion—to create paintings that express the eternal values of beauty and joy.
“I thrive in a creative environment, and I am grateful for this gift, which I express through the joy I feel when painting.”
Artist Bio
K. Nari is an experienced and versatile artist who creates paintings that emanate the essence of beauty.
Born in Seoul, Korea, K. Nari’s childhood was filled with opportunities for creative expression. Her mother was an artist and seamstress, and her mother’s love for art became an inspiring and positive influence for K. While attending school in Korea, K. received art instruction on subjects such as still life, traditional landscapes, and figure drawings. This knowledge has become the foundation for the versatility of the subject matter that she masterfully creates.
K. and her family moved to Los Angeles, CA, when she was eleven years old. Impressions from her childhood and her schooling in Korea led her to follow her passion and pursue a career in art. She attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, specializing in fine arts and illustration. She received her bachelor’s degree in 2000, graduating with honors.
After graduation, she worked in Los Angeles as an editorial illustrator for numerous magazines, publishing companies, and record companies. One notable achievement was receiving recognition for the artwork she created for Warner Brother Records which was featured in the Art Directors Annual publication. During this time, K. created paintings that were exhibited at art galleries in Los Angeles.
In 2012, the artist moved to the Phoenix area, where she continued to work in the art field. During this time, she had many opportunities to collaborate with other artists, art directors, and interior designers. The knowledge gained from those experiences provided her with the confidence to open her own studio in Old Town Scottsdale four years ago.
K. Nari is an artist who has developed and mastered her own unique style of painting. This experienced artist creates imaginative and emotive paintings that convey her sense of harmony and beauty. She creates her own originals and is equally adept at creating commissioned art for clients. She remains dedicated to continuous study and believes in learning from the masters. The sensibilities of the art of John Singer Sargent and Monet remain important influences for her art. K.’s artwork is found in art galleries across the country. She has an appreciative following who have eagerly acquired her original paintings, and her artwork is found in private collections in Arizona and across the country.
